Doministry | Dominik Strycharski

I met Andrzej only once, on the first conference of the newly (than) opened music and theatre institute in Poland few years ago. Since I became interested in contemporary music (about 25 years ago) and started to listen to the Program 2 Polskiego Radia (still the best polish radio for culture) Andrzej became one of the main voices of this world. In his radio programs, in his essays and numerous liner notes for modern era cd's. I've recorded about 100 casettes of programs from this station (!!!) with all the possible aspects of modern music. Many of them include Andrzej's voice. Now this book. I realised once again that his writing is exeptionate - intelligent, funny and always with very clear thesis. The amount of erudition and knowledge locked in those texts is astonishing. And always put in very compact but - almost aristic form. This read is fantastic and it's the pinnacle. Thank you Mr A.

Istanbul was amazing! It's a fantastic place. It's vibrant and full of contrasts, the architecture and food is excellent. And the lamb... I played with Rafal Mazur, Umut Çağlar and Korhan Futaci. Maybe we will form a band in this lineup.. The gig took place in Salon club. Free improv but full of different flavours thanks to very eastern-oriented roots... Very fresh. It all happened thanks to the Jemp Festival. And Rafal Mazur as well. Thanks also to Umut and Korhan... Here are some shots from this short adventure. We will be back for sure. P.S. Some shots from rehearsals with Agusti Fernández & Ad Libitum Ensemble. It's getting better! The gig is on SUNDAY, Studio S1 of Polish Radio. And just for the record, I use 3 of my recorders in this festival: Modern Alto/Mollenhauer, Superio Bass/Kueng and Superio Sopranino/Kueng.

The work with Agusti Fernández has started! We enjoy it very much so far. As I mentioned earlier, I just recorded an album with my/our interpretations of music of Kaszuby area in Poland. The original music is not very interesting actually, and people who know something about it say that this is something what has been made up from scratch in XIX Century in order to have SOME kind of traditional music there. So the music itself is definitely not the "deep" tradition preserved for hundreds of years and continued by generations of musicians. The interpretation is not a good word here either. It was rather something of a point of departure: the melodies taken from recordings in almost original state are the core of some formal compositional processes, as well as the themes of improvisations. But in some cases I took some further action considering the melodic language and redesigned some intervals to have slightly different structure.
